GPA Accounting was established in 1986 and is situated in the Riverland region of South Australia.
Our aim is to provide you with high quality professional business advice when your business needs it - not just when you ask for it.
Q. Why is having an accountant important?
A. A good accountant does more than just prepare taxes and prepare financial statements. They actively analyse, interpret and convert financial data into actionable business intelligence. Put simply, a good accountant can help you to run a better business.
Q. What should I take to my accountant to do my tax return?
A. We suggest you call us if you are unsure of what you need to bring to your appointment. Some of the most common items you will need include: personal details (plus spouse and dependents), income (wages, investments), interest paid, work related expenses, charitable contributions and medical expenses.
Q. What is the difference between an "accountant" and a CPA or Chartered Accountant?
A. CPA's (Certified Practising Accountants) and Chartered Accountants are individuals who have completed an undergraduate degree accredited by CPA Australia or ICA (Institute of Chartered Accountants), work to a code of ethics, are up-to-date with accounting and business practices. They also must take continuing education classes to retain their licence. There are "Accountants" who are not graduates of a Uni degree course. Whilst they may be technically competent, they do not have the checks and balances on their behaviour that CPA's and Chartered Accountant's do.
Q. How long will my work take?
A. Industry standards are around 6 weeks, we usually try and turn around work in 4 weeks... that's if you have provided us with all relevant information!!! The more organized your work, the more efficiently we can complete it. Scheduling clients work throughout the year has helped us with this. Naturally some clients are bigger and more involved than others and require more time to complete their work.
Q. When does my tax return have to be lodged?
A. As we are a registered Tax Agent, clients on our Tax Agent listing have an extended period of time to lodge their income tax return. Most income tax returns are due to be lodged in May of the following year. Some returns will be earlier depending on their situation and their past ability to meet deadlines.
Q. I don't live in your area, are you still able to help me?
A. Yes, we service clients from all over Australia. We use our secure client area on our website, emails, post and the phone to meet the needs of non local clients. We will even bring our people and skills to you if required.
Q. How much do you charge?
A. Our charges are based on the complexity of work, your willingness to help us and hours spent on the work!
Q. Can you help us to make money?
A. One of GPA's specialities is helping our clients run better businesses. We can assist with business planning, benchmarking, business management training etc. Ask us for a No obligation chat!
